Devices: how many, adding and removing

One account works on several devices. Each device where you are signed in to the app takes one place.

How many devices

All your devices are on the Devices tab in the app’s bottom menu: connected ones at the top, and a collapsed Disconnected list below.

How to add a device

Install the app on the new device (Download) and sign in the same way as on your other devices. Or use a QR code as described below.

How to add a device with a QR code

A phone always does the scanning. A computer never scans codes.

You are signed in on a computer, the new device is a phone

1. On the computer, open Devices → Connect device. A QR code appears; it changes every minute.
2. On the phone, on the sign-in screen, open Other ways → QR code → Scan code and point the camera at the code.
3. On the computer, in the Add device? window, click Add.

You are signed in on a phone, the new device is a computer

1. On the computer, on the sign-in screen, open Other ways → QR code. A code appears.
2. On the phone, open Devices → Connect device → Scan the new device’s code and point the camera at the computer screen.
3. Confirm on the phone.

You are signed in on a phone, the new device is also a phone

1. On the first phone, open Devices → Connect device. A QR code appears.
2. On the new phone, on the sign-in screen, open Other ways → QR code → Scan code and point the camera at the code.
3. Confirm on the first phone.

If the new phone doesn’t have the app yet, its regular camera opens the download page from this code.

If you have no places left

Free up a place or buy one.

Remove a device: on the Devices tab, tap the device and unlink it. You can rename it there too. The place frees up at once. The VPN turns off on the unlinked device; to use it again, sign in to the app again when you have a free place.

Buy a place on Pro or Unlimited, up to 5 on top of your plan, in the Windows app or the Android app from our website:

1. Open the ⋮ menu at the top right → Account and tap your plan line or Renew or change plan. This opens Plans.
2. Go to Add-ons → Devices → +1 device and tap Buy.
3. In the Add device window, choose how long and tap Pay. The price is shown before you pay.

When you run out of places, the app’s main screen offers to buy one. How long a place runs is set out in our Terms, section 7.3.

If a device is blocked

We check that an account isn’t used by other people. If one device’s key connects from unusually many networks within a few minutes, or from different countries, that device’s key may be blocked. The app on it will say the device was blocked, and your other devices keep working. Contact support: a member of staff will review it and give the device a new key. Details are in our Privacy Notice.
