The Methmine VPN installer for Windows is not yet signed with a digital certificate. So before it runs, Windows usually shows a blue SmartScreen window and lists the publisher as Unknown publisher. The window on its own doesn’t mean something is wrong with the file, but the file is worth checking.
The app runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11.
Check the file first
- The file was downloaded from the Download page on methminevpn.com.
- Its name starts with
MethmineVPN-, then the version number shown on the Download page, and ends with-setup.exe.
If the file came from anywhere else, for example someone sent it to you in a chat, don’t run it. Download the installer again from our website.
How to continue
The window usually reads “Windows protected your PC” and has a More info link. The exact wording depends on your Windows version.
- Click More info.
- Check the file name. The publisher line will say Unknown publisher: that is expected while the installer is unsigned.
- Click Run anyway.
- Follow the installer’s steps. You don’t need administrator rights to install: the app goes into your user folder.
- Open Methmine VPN and sign in: How to sign in.
Windows asks for administrator rights once, inside the app, at the Tunnel service step. The service is what turns the VPN on. If Windows asks whether to allow the app to make changes to your device, click Yes.
If there is no Run anyway button
On work and school computers an administrator can turn it off. Then only they can install the app.
